GUIDELINES FOR FREELANCE CONTRIBUTORS
A
two-page feature length is 1,200 words, while a single-page article
is approximately 1,000 words long.
If
possible we would like four to six, captioned, black and white photographs
or colour transparencies to illustrate a l,200 word article; one or
two photographs or colour transparencies, captioned, for a single
page.
Poems
are accepted - maximum length of 25 lines.
All
articles must be typed in double spacing with wide margins and using
one side of the paper only. A stamped addressed envelope should be
enclosed for the return of the material if it is not suitable. Receipt
of material cannot be acknowledged.
The
Editor regrets that she is unable to enter into correspondence about
articles submitted.
Although
every care is taken with feature material and illustrations submitted,
the Editor cannot undertake to be held responsible for their loss
or damage.
The
submission of articles will be taken to imply that in the event of
their acceptance the Editor may make such alterations of style and
provide such illustrations as she thinks fit. Every manuscript is
accepted on the understanding that it is the author's own original
work except as otherwise disclosed.
Payment
is made at the end of the month in which publication occurs.
Short
stories for publication in The Lady should be up to 2,000 words in
length, on a subject suitable for publication in the magazine and,
above all, cheerful.
Details
of our annual short story competition appear each year in our first
issue in October, when we publish the entry coupon. This is the only
opportunity to obtain the coupon and necessary details.
