Dear Prudence on a Twelve String
Guitar
by Linda Houlton

Suzy says The Beatles should
have played
‘Dear Prudence’
on a twelve string guitar.
She says it would have been
amazing.
And she should know.
Why tamper with the moment?
Superglue arms on the Venus de
Milo,
M C square Einstein with a
laptop,
girder Giza,
reinvent the Pyramids
as cubes.
If we had met,
unspoilt ,
at eighteen
would we have been
what we were?
Or should we celebrate
the flaws that make us perfect.
Dear Prudence
On a twelve string guitar would
have been
amazing.
With six strings
it was genius.
