Resolution Ecological

Grass, trees,
Envy, peas,
The green flash as the sun goes down,
The gate passed on the way to town;
Disenchantment’s acid glare,
A slipper lying on the stair,
The incorruptible Robespierre.
Emeralds, and soup, and jade,
The spinach pies that mother made.
Kingfisher, greenfinch, green-eyed
cat -
(The leap and pounce that go with
that),
The feather in the huntsman’s hat.
Pastures where flocks may safely
graze,
And sleeves, and belts, and celadon
glaze,
And judgments from my salad days.
My sister’s favourite green suede
bag,
The restless ocean’s push and drag –
The stuff that gets the windows
clean,
And Lorca’s “How I love you, green!”
