Promises, promises

You continue to eat and sleep
work and play.
And so do I.
Only occasionally do you cast
your mind
back to that grey and blighted day.
And so do I.
We made a pledge to difference
rather than indifference.
Talked of reaching out to one another.
You are, after all, my brother.
But days and months have passed since her leaving
left us confused, wretched, grieving.
And we, what have we gained?
You continue to eat and sleep
work and play.
And so do I.
Only occasionally do you cast
your mind
back to that grey and blighted day.
And so do I.
