MARKETS FOR NOVELS

Here is an alphabetical list of publishers of fiction, many of whom are currently willing to consider unsolicited material, or at least an initial approach from an unpublished writer, without the need for an agent. (Tip: A preliminary phone call to check the name of the appropriate editor to submit to is always a good idea.)

Please remember that the information on this page, and the listings of publishers that follow, is not intended as a definitive guide, but rather a starting point. It's simply impossible to keep everything up to date on a daily basis, so please do check websites and writers' handbooks where possible.

As with the other pages in this section, I'll be expanding my list as and when I'm able. If you would like to be informed whenever this section of the JBWB website is significantly updated, simply send an e-mail to jenny@jbwb.co.uk with 'UPDATE' as the subject.

The following list is not intended, by any stretch of the imagination, to be an exhaustive one. I've merely chosen publishers who, generally speaking, are easy to approach. For much more information on agents (as well as comprehensive listings), consult the new editions of The Writer's Handbook or The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook - 2008 editions now available from Amazon.co.uk. Also available this year, a new, essential resource for writers and artists wanting to enter the highly competitive world of children's publishing: Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2008
