Neate Publishing Quality books that children can enjoy reading. Their first book, a Dictionary of Plants and Gardens, taught children to recognise the language of a dictionary and also taught them something about plants. An Encyclopedia of Food was a children's guide to healthy eating. Each page had a healthy eating colour-guide chart - chips were red for danger, and apple juice was green. Typical of Neate's recent titles is Teeth, a book that shows children what different teeth they have, how they grow, how they can decay, how they can be protected, and so forth. Each page is accompanied by a panel suggesting ways in which teachers can help children to get the most from the book - showing, for example, how to conduct an experiment to demonstrate how fluoride toothpaste can protect teeth. They publish around six books a year, and are always looking at new ideas, but they must be designed to promote literacy and understanding, be at a quality level, and above all be really innovative.
